As part of the Band's tour of DM, we are hosting one of our weekly events with the other ORGs to open up awareness of what goes on at the Band's boards here at DM. One such event is "Tune or No Tune" - a very simple and enjoyable event. All you need to do is decide whether the song I have chosen is a
TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a
NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple!
This week's artist is a musical superstar, whose private life in recent years has ruined his image and overshadowed his genius in the music industry. I am, of course, talking about Michael Jackson. He has had many great songs over the years, so it was quite hard to pick one - but I have gone for one of my favourites. And that is
Smooth Criminal.
Released in 1988,
Smooth Criminal peaked at number 7 in the US and number 8 in the UK, with it reaching number 1 in a host of European countries.
Amongst the fast-paced beats of the song, Jackson's lyrics are about a woman named Annie, who has been attacked by a suave hitman in her appartment. Jackson's high-pitched voice are ideal for the beats of the song, adding to the sense of crime in the song. And the 1930s feel to the video is ideal for the song.
Because the beats and Jackson's high-pitched voice match perfectly, this is a great song. It is also a favourite of many Jackson fans. And because it is one of my favourite songs, it certainly is a
TUNE.
For those of you who haven't heard the song, here is a link to YouTube.
