So, after a couple of weeks with Tay doing "Tune or No Tune", you are back to me picking the songs for this feature. All you need to do is decide whether the chosen song is a
TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a
NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple!
You can blame Sam for the choice of artist this week! And it is not that often I like things that come out of Wales, but Bonnie Tyler is definietly a good thing. She had some real catchy songs and lyrics, and you can always sing along to them. And her voice is very recognisable - deep and gritty. Maybe that is because she liked Motown music, especially Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.
Now, the song.
Total Eclipse of the Heart is definitely her most successful song, since it reached number 1 in a whole host of countries, and is regularly covered. It is an extremely length power ballad, with several different versions existing. The album version is about 7 minutes long, while the radio version is much shorter. I feel the song allows Bonnie Tyler to show off her fantastic vocals, which are full of emotion in this song. No matter how I try to describe how great a song it is, I don't think I would be that successful. It's one of the greatest songs ever, and is most certainly a
TUNE.
For those of you who haven't heard the song, here is a link to YouTube.
