The first category for Week 6 is Rock. Below are the nominations from the three Regiments.

The Archers have nominated... LED ZEPPELIN
Quote
Led Zeppelin, it is one of the most, if not the most, recognized names in rock and roll today.  While they are not credited with the introduction of rock to the world, they played a critical part in the transformation from classical rock to modern rock.  The band officially formed in London, England, in August 1968 and consisted of Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (vocals), John Paul Jones (bass guitar, keyboards) and John Bonham (drums).  They enjoyed widespread success and popularity up until the death of drummer John Paul Jones in September of 1980.  At this time, the band had already become a rock and roll icon, releasing eight studio albums and playing thousands of sold out shows, many of which had record breaking attendances for the time.  Since their breakup in 1980, Led Zeppelin songs can still be heard everyday on radio stations throughout the world, thus showing that their style, influence, and songs are indeed timeless.

Good Times Bad Times – Led Zeppelin
Ramble On – Led Zeppelin II
Immigrant Song – Led Zeppelin III
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin IV
Going to California - Led Zeppelin IV

The Cavalry have nominated... THE ROLLING STONES
Quote
During the 1969 American tour, tour manager Sam Cutler introduced them as "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World", a title which has remained. Their image of unkempt and surly youth is one that many musicians still emulate. Now, at an average age of near 70, the Stones are still rockin!

The Infantry have nominated... AEROSMITH
Quote
American hard rock band, sometimes referred to as "The Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band". Their unique style, rooted in blues-based hard rock, has also come to incorporate elements of pop, heavy metal, glam, and R&B, which has inspired legions of rock artists that came after them. The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. Guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton, originally in a band together called the Jam Band, met up with singer Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Ray Tabano, and formed Aerosmith. By 1971, Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford, and the band began developing a following in Boston.

They were signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and released a string of multi-platinum albums, beginning with their 1973 eponymous debut album. In 1975, the band broke into the mainstream with the album Toys in the Attic, and their 1976 follow-up Rocks cemented their status as hard rock superstars. By the end of the 1970s, they were among the most popular hard rock bands in the world and developed a loyal following of fans, often referred to as the "Blue Army". However, drug addiction and internal conflict took its toll on the band, which resulted in the departures of Perry and Whitford, in 1979 and 1981 respectively. They were replaced by Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay. The band did not fare well between 1980 and 1984, releasing a lone album, Rock in a Hard Place, which only went gold, failing to match the successes of their previous efforts.

Although Perry and Whitford returned in 1984 and the band signed a new deal with Geffen Records, it wasn't until the band sobered up and released 1987's Permanent Vacation that they regained the level of popularity they had experienced in the 1970s. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the band scored several hits and won numerous awards for music from the multi-platinum albums Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997). Their comeback has been described as one of the most remarkable and spectacular in rock 'n' roll history. After 38 years of performing, the band continues to tour and record music.

Aerosmith is the bestselling American hard rock band of all time, having sold 150 million albums worldwide, including 66.5 million albums in the United States alone. They also hold the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group. The band has scored 21 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, nine #1 Mainstream Rock hits, four Grammy Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and in 2005 they were ranked #57 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Wow!! What a tough decision to make here.  All three are great bands that I love to listen too.  Im going to go with Led Zeppelin though.  Out of all of them, I listen to them the most and I think they are the most diverse and talented of what was put foward.  But as I said, all are good bands.

Yeah, this is a tough category to judge, there's just so many great rock bands out there.  Plus, the genre itself is so diverse that it's sometimes like comparing apples to oranges!  But for the sake of this competition, I would have to say that we've got the right nominees in terms of who everybody says the three greatest are.

For me, though, this is an easy one.  I'm not a huge Stones fan, and while I like Zep, I believe that they are terribly over-rated.  I can't stand listening to Robert Plant sing for more than about 20-30 minutes at a time while Steven Tyler is easily one of the 3 best rock singers ever alive or dead.  Joe Perry may not be the most spectacular guitar player in the world, but he's rock solid and plays within his limitations extremely well, while Jimmy Page thinks that he's God's gift to guitarists and never seems to settle down into any sort of real groove, leaving things hanging to go and try something new.

So, for me, Aerosmith takes the cake on this one hands down!

Good lord, how in the world do you judge this one.  Well, the only one of these three I have seen live is the Stones.....the only one I sing at Karaoke is Aerosmith, and the one I grew up on the most was Led Zeppelin.  I gotta go with my roots....Bonham, was one of the reasons that I started playing Drums.

I have really good memories of driving with my sister down the highway with The Immigrant Song up as loud as we could stand it. Stairway to Heaven has always been one of my favorites as well, so I have to go with Led Zeppelin.
