And now the second category of Week 4. And it is metal. Below are the nominated champions.

The Archers have nominated... METALLICA
Quote
Metallica, the name says it all.  Metallica has been at the forefront of hard rock/metal for over 20 years, paving the way for what it has become today.  The band is famous for their fast, heavy riffs that play into melodic interludes and James Hetfields growling vocals and original lyrics.  Kirk Hammet plays dynamic solos ranging from blues/jazz scales in his melodic ones to just plain ripping thee scales out on his fast solos.  The original bassist, Cliff Burton, one of the best Ive heard play in this style, was killed in the late 80's and since then they have had two other bassists.  And of course, everyone knows the controversial drummer, Lars Ulrich, who contibutes to writing both music and lyrics in just about every song.  Their first studio album, Kill 'Em All, was released in 1983 and since then they have released 7 more albums and a slew of live shows on CD.  Their most popular album was their self titled Black Album.  Other notable albums include Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and Load.  Metallica is also famous for having one of the most amazing live performances (as I have seen them 4 times Ill agree) of any touring act and also sport the loudest sound system ever created.

Now I know that some of you might be saying to yourselves that Metallica is more rock than metal, but when they established themselves, they were the genre metal.  The genre has changed dramatically today and has several different styles, but Metallica fits easily into it.

Fade to Black (Ride the Lightning) - One of my all time favorite songs
Master of Puppets (Master of Puppets) - Another of my all time favorites
Battery (Master of Puppets) - One of the fastest, heaviest songs out there
Nothing Else Matters (Black Album) - Another all time favorite

The Cavalry have nominated... OZZY OSBOURNE
Quote
Ironman....Bark at the Moon.....Paranoid.....It's Ozzy.  Nuff said!

The Infantry have nominated... MOTORHEAD
Quote
Motörhead are a British heavy metal band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Lemmy, who has remained the sole constant member. Usually a power trio, Motörhead had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, its follow on, Bomber, Ace of Spades, and particularly No Sleep 'til Hammersmith, cemented Motörhead's reputation as one of Britain's foremost heavy metal groups. More recent exposure has included providing wrestler Triple H's entrance music, performing live at WrestleMania events and in 2005 the band received their first Grammy.

Ace of Spades

There you go. There are the 3 nominations. All you now need to do is pick who you want to win (please highlight in some way or another) and go through as the Champion of Metal for the Grand Final! You have until Saturday 31st May 2008 to make your choice!

Wow, who can deny the compelling arguments of the Cavalry?  How can I not vote for the Ozzman himself?  Metallica and Motorhead are both great, but all bow down to the Wizard of Oz!  MAMMA, I'M COMIN HOME!!

Vote: Ozzy Ozbourne!

With the choices available, I have to vote for Motörhead. Would have made more sense to have Black Sabbath instead of Ozzy, bbut heh. And no Maiden? Crazy kids.

What no Iron Maiden? I have a hard time with this, I've always liked Motorhead, but Metallica used to be good. I have to go with Motorhead.

Yep I agree with Maj, Black Sabbath would make more sense than just Ozzy.

(As to no Iron Maiden, they were considered by more than one Regiment but with each Regiment not knowing who the other Regiments have chosen means looking for someone that'll get accepted.)

This is a tough choice as I also like Metallica but their last album was the biggest load of rubbish and Motorhead have Lemmy  Tongue so I'm going with Motorhead.

I do enjoy Motorhead....Although they never seemed to get as much recognition in the States as in Europe.  And, I may have voted for Black Sabbath, but not Ozzy alone(Even though I own several albums before and after Wink ).

I must go with Metallica.  I was highly dissapointed with their music post Black album, but after more than a decade in music I guess there comes a time when you must reinvent yourself a bit.  Having grown up listening to Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Metallica, and Motorhead...the one that stands out to me the most has to be Metallica, Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All.

Well... I shoulda pressed for the inventors of the genre.. Steppenwolf.. but nunya youngsters likely recall them coining the phrase "Heavy Metal Thunder". Which they did, but they were more blues/rock actually. Metallica I'll never listen to again (greedy bastiges). Motorhead are what we call here Speed Metal, or were before Lemming got old and slow. Ozzy while with Black Sabbath was the only performer ever to actually put me to sleep at a concert (1972 at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix).

But! Tommy, Geezer and Billy Boy were the baddest cats in the land at the time. Zepplin having gone all Edgar Cayce and trez weird. So I have to go with Ozzy ... he did do a crazy evil laugh thing once upon a time. And could put a rock to sleep with his evil, metal, boring but unique monotone delivery.

Are you kidding me? Metallica is only metal because METAL is in their name.  They are GLAMOUR METAL more than anything.
